Natsu Basho 2019 - Day 15
Yokozuna Pandaazuma defeated Ozeki Yamashiro in a high-level tie to put the icing on the cake and take the yusho with a 13-2 record. Yamashiro will unfortunately next basho be kadoban, which means he will need 8 wins to retain his rank. He may have same-rank competition from Sekiwake Andonishiki, who has enough wins with change to be considered for Ozeki promotion.
Haruibono also finished on a song with a superb 10-pointer - the only perfect score of the day - to win the Juryo yusho. And Chelseayama won the Makushita division in only his 3rd basho, and he is on a very strong 34-11 record so far.
Congratulations to all the winners. See you back here in July for the Nagoya tournament.

Natsu Basho 2019 - Day 14
Yokozuna Pandaazuma wrapped up the yusho a day early and this is the first yusho by a Yokozuna since former Yokozuna Kirinoumi (now fighting as Kiriazuma) managed it in 2003.
In Juryo a win tomorrow for Haruibono will give him the prize. A loss could let Yumezukuri in, who could then win the yusho on points scored.
Makushita sees Chelseayama and Reijinguoshan on level terms. Whoever wins has a good chance of winning the tournament. If both lose, there are many other contenders from the chasing pack.
Good luck to all the contenders.

Natsu Basho 2019 - Day 13
Yokozuna Pandaazuma (11-2) and Kibooyama (10-3) both won again and remain locked in a struggle for the Makuuchi yusho.
Yumezukuri slipped up in Juryo, allowing Haruibono to take the sole lead. And Chelseayama now joins Reijinguoshan in the Makushita lead.
Sekiwake Andonishiki secured his eighth win and can now be considered for ozeki promotion. He will want to finish strongly and make it three double-digit records in a row.

Natsu Basho 2019 - Day 12
Yokozuna Pandaazuma's ten-win streak ended today but he remains in the sole lead. Kibooyama is one off the pace.
Yumezukuri and Haruibono are two wins clear in Juryo. Reijinguoshan got back on track after that day-11 loss and stays one ahead of Chelseayama and Airisshu.

Natsu Basho 2019 - Day 10
Yokozuna Pandaazuma won again but two pursuers in the shape of Sekiwake Natsunoyama and Kibooyama are one win behind. Natsunoyama beat fellow Sekiwake Andonishiki today in the battle of Ozeki promotion hopefuls. He needs four more wins. Andonishiki is on an unwanted four-match losing streak and he faces another sekiwake tomorrow.
A group of four leads Juryo. And Reijinguoshan won again to remain perfect and two wins clear in Makushita.

Natsu Basho 2019 - Day 9
Sekiwake Natsunoyama lost today and this allowed Yokozuna Pandaazuma to take the sole 8-1 lead. A group of three are in hot pursuit.
Juryo became more interesting as long-time leader Toonoryu lost. There is now a four-way tie for the yusho lead. And Reijinguoshan sails serenely on to a ninth win out of nine.
In the Ozeki promotion race, both hopefuls lost today and will face each other on day ten in the highlight bout of the day. Sekiwake Natsunoyama is the most in need of a win as he needs five out of six. Sekiwake Andonishiki has lost three straight days and needs to sort himself out very quickly before the wheels come off when he faces sanyaku opponents over week two. He needs to win half of his remaining bouts.
by Pandaazuma, 2019/5/20

Natsu Basho 2019 - Day 8
Yokozuna Pandaazuma and Sekiwake Natsunoyama won again to streak ahead with 7-1 records. Takanosushi and Kibooyama are one win off the pace.
Toonoryu now leads Juryo all alone. And Reijinguoshan is still perfect in our third division.
Sekiwake Natsunoyama continues to impress on his ozeki run but still needs another five wins. Sekiwake Andonishi lost again and still needs three more wins.
by Pandaazuma, 2019/5/19

Natsu Basho 2019 - Day 7
Yokozuna Pandaazuma and Sekiwake Natsunoyama lead Makuuchi along with Takanosushi.
Tenshinhan and Toonoryu are setting the pace in Juryo. And our only remaining unbeaten player is the leader of Makushita: Reijinguoshan.
In the Ozeki promotion stakes, Sekiwake Andonishiki lost today but is still in a very strong position, needing three more from eight days. Sekiwake Natsunoyama has a tougher task: six from eight.
by Pandaazuma, 2019/5/18

Natsu Basho 2019 - Day 5
Trender was only survivor from the leading quartet and he now enjoys the sole lead of the top division. He is followed by a large group that includes the Yokozuna and also includes Ozeki hopefuls Natsunoyama and Andonishiki. Natsunoyama needs another 8 out of 10. Andonishiki needs only 4 more.
Juryo also has one unbeaten player in Tenshinhan. Makushita has been whittled down to three.
by Pandaazuma, 2019/5/16

Natsu Basho 2019 - Day 4
Four unbeaten Maegashira lead the top division including former Sekiwakes Trender and Metzinowaka and Terarno.
Tenshinhan and Survivor lead Juryo with perfect records. And we are down to five leaders in Makushita.
by Pandaazuma, 2019/5/15

Natsu Basho 2019 - Day 2
Welcome all to Natsu Basho.
Ozeki Yamashiro is on a Yokozuna run but he'll need 12 wins and a yusho to do it. He is off to a perfect start, however. Concentrate!
Sekiwake Andonishiki's amazing recent form could pay dividends this basho as he only needs 8 wins for Ozeki promotion. He is 1-1 now. The other two Sekiwake have slight chances but will need improbable results.
The leader boards are still taking shape. Let's see how we look in a couple of days.
Good luck to all the players.
